General information:
Competitive & Casual Flights:
Two types of sealed deck tournaments are available for play. In the competitive flight, there will be a prescribed number of Swiss rounds followed by a top 8 booster draft final. Two boxes of Scars will be guaranteed to the winner with a minimum attendance of 100 players (1 box guarantee for <100 players). Casual flights will have 4 rounds regardless of size. Both formats will award prizes for a record of X-2 or better. Afternoon flights will use the casual format.
Prizes will vary slightly depending on tournament size & final standings. A portion of prize packs paid to a flight winner may be held until the set release on the following Friday when they will be available for pickup or mailed to the recipient.
NEW FORMAT: SEALED ARCHENEMY!!!
The afternoon will feature a brand new prerelease format being tested exclusively at the Calgary Regional Prerelease. This non-rated, casual format will feature 3 rounds of play. Players will be given sealed product (6 packs of Scars) to make a minimum 40-card limited deck. Each round, players will be grouped into pods of 4 (or as close to that as we can make it) One player will be randomly selected as the Archenemy, while the other 3 players are designated as "Heroes." The Archenemy will be able to select from available Scheme decks for use during the round (these are provided -- players do not need to supply their own Scheme decks). Rounds are 60 minutes in length, and are scored as follows:
If the Heroes defeat the Archenemy, all 3 Heroes receive 2 points, plus 1 point for each Hero still in the game at the time the Archenemy is defeated. The Heroes who are still in the game when the Archenemy is defeated each receive an additional point.
The Archenemy receives 2 points for each Hero defeated.
If an Archenemy would be defeated at the same time as one or more Heroes, scoring works as though the Archenemy was defeated first (ties go to the Heroes).
If the Archenemy is not defeated by the end of the round, each player still in the game (including the Archenemy) receives 1 point.
Each round, players with similar point totals will be grouped in pods together. Product prizes will go to top point earners at the end of the session. For additional information on the rules for Archenemy games, clicky.
Celebrity Gunslinger: Brian David-Marshall

Likely best known for his work in the Pro Tour Tournament Center, Brian David-Marshall is Magic's official historian and arguably it's most well-travelled media personality. Brian has had the privilege of "calling" numerous Pro Tour final matches, inducting players into the Magic Hall of Fame, and covering the game since its earliest days. He has a regular column on magicthegathering.com. We are fortunate to welcome Brian to Calgary for a second time (he served as coverage reporter for Canadian Nationals in 2005) where players can challenge him to a duel or chat with him about all things Magic related. Brian will be able to play matches in sealed deck, Standard, Extended, and Legacy formats, and will hopefully be available for a little Archenemy later in the day as well.
Bounty Badges:
At the start of the sealed deck flights, players will be randomly selected to be "Bounties," and will start with a temporary badge. Whoever wins the match gets the prize AND the badge. Win a pack every round if you can hold on to the badge!
