in conjunction with Phoenix Comics presents...

... the Worldwake Prerelease

Saturday, January 30th & Sunday, January 31st
Calgary Saturday: Days Inn MacLeod Trail Calgary (3828 MacLeod Trail SE) Map
Calgary Sunday: Phoenix Comics (1010 - 16th Ave NW) Map
General information:
Competitive & Casual Flights!
As with the Zendikar prerelease, we will be offering a large main event tournament with a prescribed number of Swiss rounds and a top 8 draft with single elimination finals. There will be a guaranteed 2 boxes of the new set given to the winner with an attendance 100 or more (1 box guarantee with <100 players). We will also be offering a 4-round "casual flight." This event will only play 4 rounds regardless of size, and will have no draft or playoff. In both flights, prizes will pay to X-2, though players should expect to receive fewer prizes in the casual flight due to (likely) smaller size and larger proportion of players receiving prizes. The competitive flight will use decklists. The casual flight will not. Afternoon flights will use the casual format. While prizes will vary slightly depending on tournament size & final standings, the following provides examples of prize pools from two hypothetical events:
Casual Flight: 16 players
| Record | Players | Prize Packs |
| 4 - 0 | 1 | 10 |
| 3 - 1 | 4 | 4 |
| 2 - 2 | 6 | 1 |
Competitive Flight: 128 players
| Record | Players | Prize Packs |
| 1st | 1 | 72* |
| 2nd | 1 | 36 |
| 3rd & 4th | 2 | 18 |
| 5th - 8th | 4 | 10 |
| 5 - 2 | 21 | 5 |
* A portion of these prize packs may be held until the set release on the following Friday when they will be available for pickup or mailed to the recipient.
AMAZING GIVEAWAY: Limited Edition Worldwake Collector's Boxes!!!
Available on Saturday only, we will be giving away close to 100 Worldwake Collector's Storage boxes!! How do you get your hands on one? The only ways to GUARANTEE you'll get one are to make top 8 in the competitive flight, get a record of 4-0 in the morning casual flight, or be on the winning team in the 2-Headed Giant Flight. All other boxes will be given out as door prizes. You may get your name called in round 1 or you may find yourself playing for one of these during one of your Swiss rounds. The boxes come with color-coded dividers and can store 1000 cards. The wrap-around art is stunning and is from one of the cards from the new set These are ONLY available at a handful of Regional prereleases (they will not be available for general retail and will exist in an extremely limited quantity).

CELEBRITY GUNSLINGER: Aaron Forsythe
Joining
us in Calgary for the prerelease will be none other than the Director of Magic Research & Development,
Aaron Forsythe!! Mr. Forsythe is ultimately responsible for all Magic
product creation, design, development, creative, and editing. He has also
worked directly on the design (Lorwyn, Alara Reborn, M10, M11) and development (Shadowmoor,
Zendikar) of a number of sets. He is currently working on design of
Magic 2012 and development of the forthcoming "Lights" expansion.
His feature column on
magicthegathering.com has provided insights into the development process for
numerous cards and sets and has also given us a few
peeks over the years at upcoming developments in the Magic brand.
Aaron's lofty role with Magic is earned not only from his creative talents, but also his thorough understanding of the game at its highest level of play. Before getting hired with Wizards of the Coast in 2001, he was a member of one of the most successful Magic teams in the world, CMU. He made the top 8 of two Pro Tours, a US Nationals, and won a Worlds Team Championship. We're VERY lucky to have him joining us for this event!
In addition to wielding a number of decks for gunslinging, Mr. Forsythe will be happy to answer your questions about the inner workings of Magic R&D, as well as sign autographs. Gunslinging will be available in Legacy, Standard, Sealed Deck, and Open Dueling formats.
And for you EDH fans, fear not... we'll have a little something for you as well. :)
